|SWAT REPORT # 10
FIRST ROMANIAN STREET PREACHER
As many of you remember, my passion for many years now is to train young men in the field of publick ministry and coming to eastern Europe has only fueled that passion. We have been preaching in Brasov now for about 7 weeks and each and every time we preach we get several positive inquiries and responses. Folks who are saved come and openly show their identity with the Lord Jesus. Others asking questions concerning salvation as well as about our present location...they would like to meet with us. It is both pleasant and frustrating. Pleasant in that this very rarely happens in the materialistic-ridden, western culture countries where they have learned to be lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. Frustrating in that we currently have no meeting place where we can direct them. Fervent search has unearthed several places which are either unsuitable or out of our budget. We would love to be able to mature this fruit for picking or help to develope it so that it is can reproduce again for the Lord of the vineyard. This week we found a very busy open market where we were certain we could minister, but before we could get both banners up and begin singing we were promptly asked to leave by the rent-a-cops on duty. We made a grand procession with banners flying high and accordion playing "Onward Christian Soldiers" as we all marched the length of the market to the public sidewalk where we continued our meeting. Dan, whom you have read about in past reports was eager in every area of our witness, providing the only way for us to communicate to the many listening who have no ability in English. While Bro. Logan was waxing elequent to the crowd, Dan volunteered his services as an interpreter. He is pictured in the attachment on this duty as well as preaching on his own. I suggested he simply read from his Romanian Bible which he jumped to the opportunity. Dan asks a hundred questions per minute and is a blessing to watch grow in the Lord like a wild weed.
FIVE YEAR VISA
I have been told by many that the obtaining of a five year multiple entry visa by a missionary from America is quite the miracle. Add to this unlikely acquirement the fact that we boldly listed that one of our main activities would be preaching on the street. We even included photos of us ministering on the streets of Brasov. Some thought this to be very unwise in the attempt to properly impress the authorities in our favor. History will judge all of that but probably due to the combined prayers of our saintly friends, as well as the persisten labors of Dwight Herring and our language teacher Cati, we have been told that the decision has been made in our favor and all the necessary paper work is in the mail. This means that this visa will not only give the necessary permission to operate freely in Romania but it will list street preaching as one of the authorized functions. WHAT WONDER HE HAS ACCOMPLISHED IN OUR BENEFIT.
I'm certain that Romanian would be listed as one of the easier languages for an English speaking person to learn and we are gaining on this mountain. There are, however several words that no amount of hearing and watching our teacher and others slowly and meticulously pronounce can avail to our attempts to reproduce this sound. Can you recall the passage (Judg 12:6 KJV) Then said they unto him, Say now Shibboleth: and he said Sibboleth: for he could not frame to pronounce it right. Then they took him, and slew him at the passages of Jordan: and there fell at that time of the Ephraimites forty and two thousand. We can identify with these who "could not frame to pronounce it right. We have laughed till we cried in the attempt. For us, it is like getting peanut butter unstuck from the roof of your mouth with only your tongue. If I had a microphone I would send a sound bite attachment so you could enjoy it too...at our expense.
BOOKS ON THE WEB
Pass the word that since we are no longer pedaling our books in our meetings to support missions, we have decided to put them on our website to be read freely by any who desire. I kept getting emails distant, foreign lands in request of the books and there was no financially feasable way to get them to those requesting. This new availability will answer that problem. They will be posted soon on www.streetpreaching.com
When we are not ministering we are blessed to enjoy a winter wonderland here in Poiana Brasov. This is where Europe comes to ski cheap and we are one half mile from the sled and ski hills. Mary Bethany has enjoyed these as well as sledding right outside our apartment in the back yard. We can watch her from our terrace. We are all well and happy and enjoying the ministry which our Lord has put before us.
We can find a place to meet soon. Pray for Bro. Logan's container which still has not arrived. Pray that the promises of our visas will mature into visa-in-hand. Pray for a huge sawmill to FREELY enter Romania from Poland. This is a very vital piece of equipment for the future of the ministry here.
OUR PHONE HAS CHANGED...DIAL O11-40-788-188-368 AND WE WILL ANSWER.
